Admitting Weakness Is A Sign Of Strength
“On hearing this, Jesus said to them, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’”– Mark 2:17
Why is it so hard for us to admit we need help? Why do we hide our expression of pain or sadness? Why do we see or know so many people who could be there for us, but we choose to ignore their offers of assistance?
There are two possible answers…pride and fear!
Our pride hinders our ability to seek help when we need it. Many people are willing to help others in need, but when they are in need, they sit in silence and allow their stress to consume them.
It seems like this is a common issue among Christians, especially Christians active in churches. This is definitely an interesting fact because the church should be the one place should people enter knowing they will be cared for in their weakness, but that’s not always the case.
All throughout scripture we find the cry for help being lifted up to God. He then provides people to assist with the need. Nehemiah cried for help and God gave him the assistance to rebuild the wall.
David cried for help and God rescued him from his time of despair. God always provides help when we seek His assistance.
However, sometimes, we find ourselves asking for help still thinking we need to handle it on our own. Our pride keeps us from truly trusting God will provide the aid.
Unfortunately for many who are a part of the church going group, they fear the reaction of those who worship with them. The fear overcomes them and they fail to share their hurts with the very people who should be their supporters and encouragers.
Today, we need to be encouraged to share our struggles. We need to be willing to express our pain and hurt. We need to be able to see, that when we admit our weakness, then strength can be gained.
May God humble us and rid us of our fear to open up and admit we need help, whether it is for financial issues, the need for food, a personal struggle, etc. It is all about recognizing we are sick and we need a healer and that healer has come!
